The Techniques Class is a mixed-level class that meets on Thursday evenings at 6:15. It is open to all students, including first-timers and new students.
Typically this class starts with a formal lesson on one of our core disciplines (sword, dagger, or unarmed) of 45-60 minutes followed by 20-30 minutes of open floor for self-directed training in a designated discipline, one-on-one fundamentals work, and free sparring.
For example, the formal lesson could be dagger followed by a 30 minutes allotted to working on sword techniques
This plan varies at times to include other aspects of the system, including Fun Week (the last week of each month) when we look outside the core to other weapons such as spear, poleaxe, bastoncello, armored techniques (no armor needed), or special applications of principles of the art.
The aim of Techniques classes is to cover a wide sample of our curriculum (See What We Study) at a level appropriate for everyone--usually covering the same topics addressed in Advanced Techniques, but at a lower intensity or with greater attention to details.
Techniques is a great place to start for newcomers to the club or newcomers to HEMA who either cannot make it to Sunday fundamentals or are looking for more sword time.
There are no special gear or experience requirements to attend Thursday Techniques classes. Prior registration is required.
